AUBURN — A local man who was struck by an SUV on Hotel Road last weekend has died.
Robert Burns Sr., 81, was crossing the road to retrieve his Sunday newspaper around 10 a.m. when he was struck by a Ford Explorer driven by Tyler Todd, 37, of Farmington Falls.
Todd, who was southbound on Hotel Road, had attempted to avoid Burns and lost control of the SUV, police said.
Burns was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and was in an induced coma in the Intensive Care Unit. He suffered a fractured skull and a brain bleed.
Burns died Wednesday.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Local police were assisted by an accident reconstructionist from the Lewiston Police Department.
No charges have been brought and no citations issued, police said.
