TURNER — Senior guard Jack Sylvester tossed in 15 points to lead Leavitt to a 46-44 victory over Mt. Blue in a boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Sylvester made three free throws in the final minutes for Leavitt.
Senior forward D’Andre James scored a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Hornets (2-9), while Cole Morin posted a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with his five points.
Cole Dorman had a game-high 16 points for the Cougars (1-10), who came within a point of their second victory of the season.
Wells 47, Gray-New Gloucester 35
GRAY — Owen Berry recorded 13 points as Wells grabbed a 47-35 victory from Gray-New Gloucester in boys’ baksetball Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors (7-3) jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter and held tough the rest of the way.
Josiah Rottari hit three three-pointers and two foul shots to lead the Patriots (5-5) in the losing effort.
Spruce Mountain 43, Winslow 38
JAY — Senior forward Noah Preble scored a game-high 11 points to lead Spruce Mountain to a 43-38 victory over Winslow in KVAC boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Phoenix (10-1) gave back seven points of their eight-point halftime lead in the third quarter. Senior point guard Austin Darling made 3-of-4 from the line down the stretch to seal the win.
Senior shooting gaurd Spencer Miranda listed a team-leading 10 points for the Black Raiders (8-1) in their first loss of the year.
Oxford Hills 63, Sanford 42
PARIS — Matt Fleming tickled the twines with a game-high 23 points as Oxford Hills handled Sanford 63-42 in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Cole Verrier contributed 15 points for Vikings with six field goals, including three from three-point range.
Brad Bouchard collected a team-high 13 points, while Ethan Belanger added 12 points for the Spartans in the losing effort.
Dirigo 55, Mt. Abram 36
SALEM — Luke Lueders paced Dirigo with 19 points in a 55-36 victory over Mt. Abram.
Jeremy St. Germain chipped in nine points.
The Cougars (2-9) broke open the game with a 15-0 run in the third quarter with four 3-pointers in a row.
Dan Luce had 11 points to lead the Roadrunners (0-9). Glendon Howard had seven points.
Edward Little 65, Massabesic 28
AUBURN — Darby Shea was hot behind the 3-point line, sinking six treys and collecting 21 points overall in Edward Little’s 65-28 victory over Massabesic.
Wol Maiwen contributed with 13 points for the Red Eddies (10-0).
Alex Schepis (2-8) led Massabesic with seven points.
Telstar 70, Boothbay 53
BETHEL — Tanner Wheeler led four Telstar players in double figures Saturday with 19 and added 11 rebounds to pace the Rebels to a 70-53 win over Boothbay in an MVC boys’ basketball game.
Avry Griffin added 16 points and Jarrett Bean struck for 15 — all from beyond the arc — in the victory, helping boost Telstar’s record to 3-8 on the season. Bean also added 12 rebounds, and Blake Rothwell rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13.
Jacob Leonard led the Seahawks (6-5) with 14 points, while Kyle Ames drained a pair of 3s and contributed 10 in the loss.
Girls’ basketball
Edward Little 48, Massabesic 28
WATERBORO — Jordyn Reynolds had a game-high 17 points as Edward Little defeated Massabesic 48-28.
Jade Perry contributed with 11 points in the victory as the Red Eddies improve to 9-2 on the year.
Stephan Renaud (0-9) had 11 points as the Mustangs’ leading scorer.
Poland 35, Sacopee Valley 22
HIRAM — Nathalie Theriault had 14 of her 16 points in the second half as Poland defeated Sacopee Valley 35-22.
She had eight points in the fourth quater as the Knights outscored the Hawks 17-4 in the frame. Alexandria Grondin had nine points in the game as the Knights improve to 7-3.
Helen Ruhlin had 11 points to lead the Haks (2-9).
Mountain Valley 42, Oak Hill 25
WALES — Ashley Russell drained 13 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 42-25 triumph over Oak Hill in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons (8-2) led 19-12 at the half. Emily Laubauskas added nine points for Mountain Valley.
Abby Nadeau paced the Raiders (4-7) with a team-leading eight points, while Maddy Bennett chipped in with seven in the losing effort.
Mt. Blue 38, Leavitt 33
FARMINGTON — Senior point guard Leah St.Laurent scored a team-high seven points in a balanced attack as Mt. Blue achieved a 38-33 victory over Leavitt in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Freshman guard Lexi Mittelstadt posted six points for the Cougars (2-8). Mt. Blue made 10-of-19 foul shots in the fourth quarter.
Junior guard Elizabeth Goulette recorded a game-high 13 points for the Hornets (5-7) in the losing effort.
Dirigo 36, Hall-Dale 25
DIXFIELD — Sophia Jacques registered a team-high nine points as Dirigo dispatched Hall-Dale 36-25 in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Olivia Noyes contributed seven points and six rebounds with three assists for the Cougars (4-7).
Kayhla Searles scored a team-high 11 points for the Bulldogs (0-12) in the losing effort.
Winthrop 46, Lisbon 37
LISBON — Kena Souza poured in a game-high 16 points to lead Winthrop to a 46-37 victory over Lisbon in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Ramblers turned a six-point, first-quarter deficit into a 27-26 lead at halftime.
Gianna Russo and Kaylin Le provided a shared team-high 10 points each for the Greyhounds in the losing effort.
Oxford Hills 48, Sanford 32
SANFORD — Maighread Laliberte scored a game-high 11 points as Oxford Hills swamped Sanford 48-32 in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Julia Colby and Krystin Paine pitched in with eight points apiece for the Vikings.
Summer Camire netted a team-high seven points for the Spartans in the losing effort.
St. Dom’s 45, Old Orchard Beach 32
OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Senior forward Allie Veinote drained a game-high 12 points to lead St. Dom’s to a 45-32 victory over Old Orchard Beach in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Saints poured on the offense in the fourth quarter, outpacing the Seagulls 17-4 in the frame. Caroline Gastonguay contributed 11 points for St. Dom’s.
Sophomore guard Samantha Donnell tossed a team-high 11 points for Old Orchard Beach in the losing effort.
Men’s basketball
Middlebury 79, Bates 71
LEWISTON — The No. 15 nationally ranked Middlebury Panthers tallied 21 second-chance points on their way to handing the Bates men’s basketball team their first NESCAC loss of the season, 79-71, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gym.
The Panthers (12-2, 3-1 NESCAC) outrebounded the Bobcats (12-4, 3-1 NESCAC) 45-31 and converted 21 second chance points, compared to only seven second chance points for Bates.
The Bobcats never led in the game.
Middlebury’s Jake Brown led all scorers with 22 points, including 16 in the first half, as the Panthers built a 12-point lead by intermission.
Freshman Jeff Spellman provided a spark off the bench for Bates, leading the Bobcats with 14 points on 4-7 shooting. Senior Malcolm Delpeche added 12 points and seven rebounds while junior Justin Zukowski chipped in 12 points as well.
Women’s basketball
Middlebury 66, Bates 46
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Senior co-captain Allie Coppola scored a career-high 27 points and recorded her fourth consecutive double-double for the Bates women’s basketball team in a 66-46 loss to the Middlebury Panthers Saturday afternoon.
Senior co-captain Bernadette Connors chipped in 10 points but Bates struggled on offense, hitting only 1-13 threes as a team.
UMF 63, Thomas 55
FARMINGTON — UMaine-Farmington toppled Thomas College on Saturday afternoon at Dearborn Gymnasium by a score of 63-55.
UMF moves to 3-9 overall and 3-5 in the NAC, while the Terriers fall to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
Cheyenne Malloy finished with 15 points, while Sara Lamb finished with team-high 16 points off the bench.
Jenessa Talarico added 12 points for the Beavers.
