Rumford Quilters open sewing
RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street for open sewing.
The purpose of the special meeting is to make baby quilts for a local donation.

Hungarian dinner, illustrated talk
WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library will host an authentic Hungarian dinner and illustrated talk at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.
Kati Vecsey will prepare a selection of traditional Hungarian appetizers, goulash, a vegetarian option of cherry soup and warm apple strudel for dessert. Hungarian wines will accompany the meal.
Between dinner and dessert, Vecsey will give a brief talk about Hungary and reflect on life in a Communist country. Vecsey was born in Budapest and grew up there. She moved to Maine in 1995 and is a senior lecturer in theater at Bates College.
Only 24 tickets will be sold, so tickets should be purchased as soon as possible. Tickets are $25 each, and proceeds will benefit the Cary Memorial Library.
The snow date will be Sunday, Feb. 12.
