CHESTERVILLE — Collaborating by phone Friday, selectmen hired New Sharon Town Clerk Pamela Griswold to work part time as clerk and treasurer, board Chairman Guy Iverson said.

The decision came one day after Town Clerk and Tax Collector Heather Wheeler resigned and the Town Office was closed, leaving residents unable to register vehicles, license dogs or make tax payments.

The Maine Department of Motor Vehicles retrieved motor vehicle records from the office Thursday afternoon, Iverson said.

The clerk’s hours will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays; and 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays.

The treasurer’s hours will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays; 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays; and 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays.

Selectmen have scheduled a meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 24, at the Town Office regarding the vacant positions, Iverson said.
