LISBON — Gianna Russo scored a team-high 14 points as Lisbon dashed to a 41-33 victory over Dirigo in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Greyhounds doubled up the Cougars 18-9 in the second quarter for a 27-16 lead at halftime. Jasmine Le contributed nine points for Lisbon.
Alexa Varnum tossed five field goals and four from the free throw line to provide a team-leading 14 points for Dirigo in the losing effort.
Boys’ basketball
Richmond 63, Buckfield 55
RICHMOND — Zach Small had a stellar performance with 36 points on nine field goals, including four from three-point range and 14 from the charity stripe to lift Richmond to a 63-55 victory over Buckfield in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats (12-0) played even for most of the contest until managing a 15-9 run in the fourth quarter to seal the deal. Cody Tribbet aided the offense with six field goals for 15 points for Richmond.
Ethan Jackson recorded a team-leading 18 points, while Jake Kraske and Jake Hackett collected 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Buckfield in the losing effort.
Mt. Abram 54, Oak Hill 49
SALEM — Senior guard Dan Luce posted a team-high 19 points to guide Mt. Abram to an upset victory and first win of the season with a 54-49 win over Oak Hill in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Roadrunners (1-10) came back from a sluggish first quarter to recover three of their five-point deficit. And in the fourth quarter, Mt. Abram doubled up the Raiders (7-4) 14-7 to notch the win.
Freshman guard Nate Luce chipped in with 12 points to support his brother on offense for Mt. Abram.
Forward Marcus Bailey netted a team-high 19 points, while guard Cohen Donnell added 17 for Oak Hill in the losing effort.
Boothbay 46, Monmouth 44
MONMOUTH — Junior guard Carter Babcock registered a team-high 13 points to lead Boothbay to a 46-44 victory over Monmouth in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs (3-11) stole an inbound pass with one second remaining in regulation, but failed to sink the three-point attempt for the would be win.
Senior guard Hunter Richardson hit a game-high 16 points, while senior forward Travis Hartford tallied 12 points for Monmouth.
Sophomore guard Kyle Ames provided 12 points on offense for the Seahawks (7-6) in the winning effort.
Dirigo 52, Lisbon 50
DIXFIELD — Junior forward Cooper Chiasson drained a team-leading 17 points as Dirigo came from behind to bolt down a 52-50 victory over Lisbon in boys’ basketball action Saturday evening.
With six minutes remaining in the game and down by 12 points, the Cougars (4-9) rallied. Alex Gorham hit a 3-point basket with one minute left, and junior point guard Luke Lueders collected a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining.
The Greyhounds (6-7) attempted to tie the game with a field goal, but the ball circled the rim and fell out at the buzzer.
Junior forward Sean Scott gathered up six field goals, all of the three-point variety, to lead all scorers for Lisbon in the losing effort.
Boys’ hockey
Gray-New Glocuester/Poland/Oak Hill/Leavitt 8, Maranacook/Winthrop 4
AUBURN — Senior right wing Drake Goupil netted four goals to knock out Maranacook/Winthrop 8-4 in boys’ ice hockey action Saturday evening.
The Kings (4-3-1) put five goals in the back of the net before the Hawks tallied just one. Senior center Hunter Soucy contributed a goal and two assists for the Kings.
Junior right wing Henry Honkonon began a three-goal rally for the Hawks (3-7) in the final period with a pair of his own in the losing effort.
Women’s basketball
Wesleyan 62, Bates 58
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Nina Davenport scored a game-high 23 points and Bernadette Connors added 14 points in a close 62-58 loss for the Bates women’s basketball team Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats (5-12) took a 37-29 lead over Wesleyan when senior co-captain Allie Coppola hit a jumper with 5:40 left in the third quarter. Coppola scored six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the contest.
The Cardinals (6-10) ended the third quarter on a remarkable 11-0 run, taking the lead for good on a Chynna Bailey layup with 1:32 to go.
Heidi Scarth notched a team-high 17 points, while four other players posted eight points in a balanced attack for Wesleyan in the winning effort.
CMCC 89, College of St. Joseph 67
RUTLAND, Vt. — Freshman gaurd Tianna Harriman of Auburn connected for a season-high eight three-pointers to lead Central Maine Community College to an 89-67 decision over the College of St. Joseph’s in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Brooke Reynolds of Poland notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs (18-1), while Eraleena Gethers-Hairston of Auburn ripped down a team-high 11 rebounds.
Alayna Landolfo led the College of St. Joseph’s with a team-high 24 points in the losing effort.
