BIDDEFORD — Two Lewiston women are in York County Jail after being charged with robbing a Biddeford convenience store at gunpoint Sunday while their child was left outside in a vehicle.

Biddeford police said 20-year-old Kaylee M. Bernier and 23-year-old Monica L. Durgin, both of Lewiston, robbed the 7B Corner Store at gunpoint.

Upon arrival, officers found a 6-year-old child waiting in the couple’s car, said Biddeford Deputy Chief JoAnne Fisk. Fisk said the child belonged to the couple.

Fisk said the couple were attempting to make off with electronics when Bernier brandished a firearm; the clerk was not injured.

Bernier was charged with robbery, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. Durgin was charged with robbery and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police said the Maine Department of Health and Human Services was contacted and the child was placed in the custody of a Lewiston relative.

Both women were brought to York County Jail where they are being held without bail.

A jail spokeswoman said the pair would appear in court Monday afternoon, at which time their bail conditions may change.
