CHESTERVILLE — The Town Office is fully operational again after selectmen hired two part-time clerks.

The office was closed for a week after Town Clerk Heather Wheeler resigned unexpectedly Jan. 19. The Department of Motor Vehicles removed plates and stickers that afternoon, but they were returned Tuesday.

New Sharon Town Clerk Pamela Griswold was hired as interim town clerk until the annual town meeting in March, when Wheeler’s term would have expired.

Griswold will be at the office Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Retired Chesterville Town Clerk Patty Gordon was hired as deputy town clerk. She will cover the office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Town clerk hours are now:

Treasurer Olive Couture can accept payments for property taxes, tax liens and excise taxes on new vehicles.

She can’t complete new vehicle registrations, she said.

The part-time clerks will not be able to accept tax payments until they are appointed deputy treasurers.

Gordon was to be deputized Friday and Griswold next week, Couture said.
