LISBON — Kena Souza scored a team-high 14 points as Winthrop notched a 56-46 victory over Lisbon in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Ramblers (9-6) charged ahead in the second quarter with a 21-12 run to close the half with a 33-22 lead. Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone contributed 10 points for Winthrop.

Kaylin Le posted a team-leading 14 points, while Gianna Russo added 10 points for the Greyhounds (8-8) in the losing effort.

Poland 41, Waynflete 28

POLAND — Jess Seeley recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as Poland galloped to a 41-28 victory over Waynflete in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Knights’ (9-5) defense only allowed six points in the second half. Junior guard Sarah Moody netted 10 points for Poland.

Senior center Annika Brooks registered a double-double with a game high 16 points to go along with her 10 rebounds for the Flyers (8-6). Junior guard Nathalie Theriault pitched in with 11 points for Waynflete in the losing effort.

Women’s basketball

Tufts 73, Bates 44

MEDFORD, Mass. — Junior Nina Davenport scored a team-high 16 points, and senior co-captain Allie Coppola tallied a double-doubled despite Bates falling 73-44 to No. 1 nationally ranked Tufts University Saturday afternoon.

Coppola poured in 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting and recorded a game-high 15 rebounds for the Bobcats (5-13). 

Melissa Baptista led the Jumbos (20-0) with a game-high 22 points.

First-year Carly Christofi hit a three with 4:45 to go and Coppola converted an old fashioned three-point play with 4:11 left for Bates’ final points of the game.

Men’s basketball

Bates 84, Tufts 72

LEWISTON — Marcus Delpeche scored a game-high 28 points, and Jerome Darling added a career-high 21 points in an impressive 84-72 for Bates over No. 4 nationally ranked Tufts University Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Bobcats  (14-6) hand the Jumbos (16-3) their first conference loss of the season. Delpeche finished with a double-double on 28 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Senior Quin Leary of Auburn hit a jumper with 14:20 to go in the game. Leary tallied nine points in 16 minutes off the bench.  And, with 11:58 remaining, first-year Jeff Spellman nailed a three to give the Bobcats an 18-point lead, their biggest of the game.

L/A 4, East Coast 1

LEWISTON — Matt Siegel scored twice as the Fighting Spirit defeated the Minutemen 4-1 Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Both of Siegel’s goals came in the first period — his 12th and 13th of the year. Caleb Labrie also notched a goal in the opening 20 minutes.

Shamus Lombard of East Coast scored the only goal of the second period.

Felix Nyqvist put home the Fighting Spirit’s fourth goal four minutes into the third period.

Aaron Callan made 23 saves in the win, while Nick Kent and Dom Montecalvo combined to make 43 saves for East Coast.
