WEDNESDAY, Feb. 1

LEWISTON — Talk about exhibit at Bates College, “Phantom Punch: Contemporary Art from Saudi Arabia in Lewiston,” presented by Bates anthropology professor Loring Danforth, 6 p.m., Lewiston Public Library. In 2016 Danforth spent three weeks in Saudi Arabia interviewing artists for the Bates exhibit; artwork illustrates insider perspective on Saudi society and culture.

THURSDAY, Feb. 2

LEWISTON — “Becoming American: W.E.B. Du Bois and the Meaning of Race and Citizenship in the Jim Crow Era,” free public event, at Franco Center, 5 p.m. reception, program starts at 6 p.m. University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College President Joyce Gibson will talk about living in Mississippi during Jim Crow era, professor Leroy Rowe will talk about African-American struggle for inclusion.
