PARIS — A Waterford man remained in jail Tuesday night, charged with assaulting a woman Sunday for the second time in two months.

Justin Stanton, 33, of 435 Norway Road, was arraigned Monday in 11th District Court in Paris. He is charged with felony aggravated assault, assault on an officer, domestic violence assault, refusing to submit to arrest and violating conditions of release, according to court documents.

He is being held on $10,000 cash bail. Conditions of release include no use or possession of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, no possession of dangerous weapons, being subject to search or testing at any time and having no contact with the victim.

Oxford County Deputy Joshua Daley’s report said that at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday a woman, who declined to give her name, called authorities to report she was being assaulted and then hung up. He recognized the address from a domestic disturbance he responded to in November.

Daley and Oxford County Deputy Stephen Witham found the woman with dried blood on her lip and several bruises and abrasions on her face, and Stanton asleep on the floor.

“She said that they had been consuming alcohol … and watching the football game on TV, and the next thing she knew, Stanton was beating her up,” Daley wrote. “She stated to me several times that (during the assault), she felt like she was going to die and would “pretend to be unconscious in an attempt to make Stanton stop.”

Daley wrote that Stanton repeatedly resisted arrest and was clearly intoxicated, which is a violation of his bail conditions from an incident in November involving the same woman. Stanton also repeatedly spit in the cruiser and at the officers.

Cpl. Danielle Welch put Stanton in a spit hood, Daley said.

After Stanton was transported to the jail, Daley said he spoke with the woman, who said Stanton had been “beating her up” for approximately two and a half hours straight.

On Nov. 27, 2016, Stanton was arrested and charged with head-butting and choking the woman.
