PORTSMOUTH — A former Rumford lawyer who was once convicted of phoning in school bomb threats in Wilton has been charged with witness tampering and other felony charges in New Hampshire.

Ragnar R. Huffmann, 57, was known as Ronald E. Hoffman before he legally changed his name to Huffmann after he was arrested in Maine on two counts of domestic violence terrorizing in 2014 and gave up his license to practice in Maine.

Huffmann was convicted of calling in bomb threats to two elementary schools in Wilton in 2012 and was given a suspended sentence. At the time, he lived in Sumner and practiced law in Rumford.

Huffmann practices law part time in New Hampshire and works as a salesman at Seacoast Harley Davidson, according to a New Hampshire Union Leader story.

Huffman faces three felony counts of conspiracy to commit witness tampering, two felony counts of tampering with witnesses, and two felony counts and two misdemeanor counts of criminal liability for conduct of another.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Portsmouth Circuit Court.

According to the New Hampshire Bar Association, Huffmann is licensed to practice law there. And, according to the Maine Bar Association, while he resigned his Maine license, he is still licensed to practice in Massachusetts and in the First Circuit federal courts in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

He is a 1996 graduate of the Maine School of Law and was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1997.
