LEWISTON — This month’s session of the Great Falls Forum will feature Lewiston High School soccer coach Mike McGraw with a presentation titled “Soccer Stories: Reflections on the LHS Dream Team.”

The program will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

Competitive sports have always played an important part in the life of Mike McGraw. While at Lewiston High School in the 1960s he played football and basketball and participated in track. He went on to Gorham State College where he found time for soccer and track.

McGraw is quick to attribute much of his success in school to his supportive home life and his involvement in athletics. Therefore, it was not long after McGraw started teaching biology at Lewiston High School in 1974 that he was recruited for coaching duties.

First it was in the roles of assistant coach in boys’ soccer and girls’ basketball, but over the years he has been tapped for head-coaching jobs in boys’ and girls’ basketball and girls’ track, in addition to his 35-year run leading the boys’ soccer program. Over that time, Coach McGraw has had the unique opportunity to work with and mentor a wide range of students.

Despite the dozens of fine athletes and the numerous successful teams that McGraw has led over the years, it was not until the fall of 2015 that he was able to garner a state championship for the Lewiston team. At this forum event the coach will talk about the unique and diverse confluence that led to the 2015 “dream team” and championship trophy.

A question-and-answer period will follow his remarks.

Admission is free to all forum events and no reservations are required. This program is a bring-your-own brown-bag lunch event. Coffee, tea and bottled water will be available on site at the library.
