HARRISON — A Harrison man was charged with setting fire to a barn on Edes Falls Road, according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Dathan Wakefield, 44, of 40 Deerstrees Road was arrested Monday by the State Fire Marshal’s Office on two counts of Class A arson, according to the release.

Wakefield is charged with setting fire to Michael Giguere’s barn at 1073 Edes Falls Road on Friday night. Investigators said there is a long-running dispute between the men.

A neighbor spotted the fire and called Giguere, who was in his house attached to the barn. He escaped without injury, according to the statement.

Investigators said the fire started on the outside of the barn and firefighters were able to stop the blaze from seriously damaging the building.

Wakefield was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland where he was being held on $50,000 bail, a corrections officer said.
