LEWISTON — Pianist Michael Lewin will present a recital at 7 p.m. Friday, March 10, at The Dolard & Priscilla Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar St.

A reception will be held at 6 p.m.

The recital will feature works by Beethoven, Cuban composer Ernesto Lecouna, two Brazilian composers, Ernesto Nazareth and Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Franz Liszt.

Following study at the Juilliard School, Lewin launched his career upon winning major prizes in several prestigious competitions, including the William Kapell International Competition and the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition, and the American Pianists Association Award.

His tours have taken him to Moscow’s Great Hall, Taipei’s National Concert Hall, the Opera House of Cairo, the Athens Megaron and London’s Wigmore Hall. Orchestral engagements have included the Netherlands Philharmonic, the State Symphony of Greece, the China National Radio and Film Orchestra, the Boston Pops, and the Indianapolis Symphony.

His extensive discography includes two recent Debussy albums for Sono Luminus, Starry Night and Beau Soir. He also published on Sono Luminus “Piano Phantoms,” music inspired by the spirit world, and “If I Were a Bird,” a popular collection of bird-themed pieces, which received a Grammy nomination.

Much sought-after as a teacher, Lewin is professor of piano at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee and artistic director of the Boston Conservatory Piano Masters Series. He has mentored many prize-winning pianists and is a frequent juror at international piano competitions. 

Admission is $15. Seniors pay $10 and students are free. Parking is included in the price of the ticket. All proceeds will benefit the Franco Center.
