The Lewiston Mall on East Avenue in Lewiston
LEWISTON — RadioShack and Olympia Sports are closing in the Lewiston Mall, bringing the apparent number of vacant storefronts in the once-thriving space to 10.
However, WRE Commercial Brokers’ Jay Wise said Monday those empty storefronts are deceptive.
He said new tenants are moving in, but declined to say whom or when.
“We have them all full, actually,” Wise said. “There’s nothing we’re going to talk about, but we’re all set there.”
Each will be announced “when the tenants put their banners up,” he said. “We don’t do tenants’ work for them by announcing what they’re doing.”
RadioShack is closing Wednesday, according to a store employee. Staff at Olympia Sports said it was closing by the end of the month but that the Olympia Sports in the Auburn Mall would stay open.
Messages placed to both corporate headquarters weren’t returned Monday.
The Lewiston Mall was once home to stores such as Fashion Bug and Pet Life, anchored by Sears. Fashion Bug closed in 2012, Sears in 2013. Pet Life moved across the street last year.
Wise said the Sears space has been used by Marden’s for storage for the past three years. On WRE Commercial Brokers’ website, a site plan lists the former Sears’ 89,572 square feet as available for lease. It also lists several other vacancies in the mall.
Dollar Tree and Family Dollar are labeled on that site plan as “proposed” tenants in two storefronts next to Bull Moose Music.
