100 years ago, 1917
Charles D. Hasty of Auburn shipped this week to Aroostook county, three express loads of magnificent draft horses. One of these loads went on Wednesday to Presque Isle; another on Thursday to Fort Fairfield. While all were splendid animals, this latter load was declared by good judges to be the best over seen in these parts, and worth going a long way to see. This is the finest load of horses ever shipped into Aroostook county. They weigh 1800 to 2000 pounds each.

50 years ago, 1967
A special meeting of the Lewiston Board of Mayor and Aldermen has been scheduled for Tuesday night for the purpose of once again reviewing plans to purchase the so-called Jackson Heights area on Upper Main Street Lewiston, for use as a recreational area. This session will be open to the public, it was said. The recreational area, as proposed, is just west of the Greene town line and extends westerly between Main Street and the Androscoggin River.

25 years ago, 1992
Members of Jacques Cartier will gather at the chalet on Route 132 in Sabattus Saturday for an old-fashioned box social. The ladles attending will take a decorated box containing supper for two. The men present will bid on the boxes and share the meal with the one who brought it. A prize will be awarded for the prettiest box.
