WEST PARIS — Town Manager Wade Rainey told selectmen Thursday that the condemned house at 10 Church St. may have been sold.
He said a telephone call from a real estate broker indicated the new owner wants to turn it into four or five apartments.
The house has been an issue “that has been dragged out for over a year” Rainey said. “It would cost (the town) around $25,000 to tear it down and clean up after.”
If the town did so, a lien would be placed on the property.
Selectmen noted there would be parking and septic issues should a new owner wish to renovate the building. Further, the owner would have to go before the Planning Board.
Selectman Dale Piirainen expressed concern about making the house secure and posting trespassing signs.
The property will be a subject of a special selectmen meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 30.
In other business, nominations and election for chairman of the board were tabled until all three selectmen are in attendance. Piirainen and Mike Grass attended Thursday’s meeting; Randy Jones was absent.
The board presented a plaque and their thanks to town employee Karen Wilson in recognition of becoming a certified treasurer.
The board approved a bottle club application for Ring-McKeen American Legion Post 151. The permit allows people who rent the hall to bring their own alcohol.
Piirainen requested the Planning Board look into creating a Site Plan Review Ordinance, possibly modeled after one in Otisfield. The ordinance would be brought to selectmen for review and presented to voters for approval.
