PARIS — The Paris Hill Music Festival on Aug. 10-13 will feature four Maine-based groups representing three genres of music.
The concerts will be held in the historic First Baptist Church of Paris Hill on Paris Hill Road.
Schooner Fare, which started in South Paris, will perform Aug. 10. The band writes and performs topical songs, country ballads and maritime masterpieces that have made their name synonymous with the “Down East” style. They play their folk songs on six-string guitars, 12-string guitars and banjos. They enjoy interjecting Maine humor throughout their performance.
Tickets are $25 each.
On Aug. 11, the DaPonte String Quartet will perform. The quartet, who originally hailed from the Philadelphia Symphony, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Maine. Members perform on two violins, a cello, and a viola. Although subject to change, their program is scheduled to include the following works: Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Quartet Op. 59, No. 1” and Ottorino Respighi’s “Quartetto Dorico.” Tickets are $20 each.
On Saturday, Aug. 12, Noel Paul Stookey will be at Paris Hill for the first time. A member of Peter, Paul, and Mary in the 1960s, he went solo, writing and performing music that addresses social change. Tickets are $30 each.
On Sunday, Aug. 13, an afternoon of jazz will be performed by the Chris Humphrey Jazz Quartet from Kennebunk. Members of the Chris Humphrey Big Band have played with many musical luminaries, including Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, James Moody, Artie Shaw, Guy Lombardo, Tony Bennett, Bob Mintzer, Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie, The Beach Boys, The Four Tops and The Temptations. The quartet will feature piano, drums, bass and saxophone. Tickets are $20 each.
Tickets will go on sale June 1 at: Books N Things in Norway, Bolster’s Decorating in South Paris and at the Paris Hill Country Club on Paris Hill. Tickets can also be bought by calling 207-743-9390.
There is an $80 ticket for all four concerts. The first three concerts are at 7 p.m. and the jazz concert at 3 p.m. Sunday.
