LEWISTON — The School Committee unanimously approved three nominations for administrators Monday night.
The new hires are not filling new positions, said Assistant Superintendent Tom Jarvis, who is retiring. They are replacing people who have been promoted or are retiring.
The positions approved are:
• April Caron as assistant principal and special education supervisor at Farwell Elementary School. Caron has been a teacher at Farwell for more than 10 years, starting as an educational technician and working her way up, incoming Farwell Principal Amanda Winslow said. “She’s continued to exemplify her leadership skills and has shown she’s ready for this next step,” Winslow said.
Caron’s annual salary will be $76,443.
She replaces Michelle Russell, who’s transferring to McMahon Elementary School as assistant principal. McMahon Assistant Principal Kaitlynn Brown resigned.
• Tiffany Demarest will be assistant principal at Montello Elementary School. Montello Principal Jim Cliffe said Demarest has taught special education and English Language Learner classes at Montello and is the literacy coach. “Her contributions to Montello have been exceptional,” Cliffe said. “She gets our kids. She gets our families. She gets our staff.”
Demarest’s annual salary will be $76,433. She replaces Kelli Rogers who resigned.
• Sue Williams will be the director of Instructional Support and Teacher Effectiveness. She has more than 18 years of classroom experience in Cumberland, said incoming Assistant Superintendent Shawn Chabot. Recently she has worked for Maine Schools of Excellence project to help schools improve. In that role she worked with Lewiston school teachers and administrators for nearly five years.
Williams’ annual salary will be $87,417. She replaces Mary Paine who resigned.
