LISBON — Councilors on Tuesday passed a municipal budget of $8.81 million, a $204,880 increase from the 2016-17 budget.
The most recent addition to this budget is $8,000 for wages and benefits for a new police officer if the town is awarded the Community Oriented Policing Services grant, for which councilors applied last week. This grant would pay 75 percent of an additional officer’s salary.
Councilors also voted to increase the sewer rate by 12.15 percent, the first increase since 2011, which was a 3.88 percent increase.
This increase will help the town receive grant and loan money for upcoming sewer projects, Town Manager Diane Barnes said.
“We’re going to see increases for the next few years after this,” Barnes said. “But that’s a result of not having any increases since 2011.”
In other business, the Recreation Department is looking for volunteers to help put up the Mitchell Joseph Breton-Tuplin playground at the MTM Community Center in Lisbon Falls at 7 a.m. Saturday.
The next council meeting will take place at 7 p.m. July 18 at the Town Office.
