OTISFIELD — The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Wednesday to approve a recycling contract with a Norway company.
Chairman Hal Ferguson said the three-year contract with Tice Waste Management would last from July 1 to June 30, 2020. Tice would pick up all of the recyclables from the Otisfield Transfer Station and sell them to another company.
Owner/operator Josh Tice said that whatever money he gets for the recyclables he would cut a check to the town for “5 percent of the profits.”
Selectman Lenny Adler said that the town’s transfer station currently collects recyclables using several bins and a supply container from the Oxford County Regional Recycling Corp.
However, the corporation announced earlier this year that it would no longer collect recyclables in Otisfield because the corporation was planning to dissolve.
Tice said that sometime after July 1, he would replace the town’s bins and supply container with his own equipment, at no cost to the town.
