PARIS — Bail has been set at $25,000 worth of real estate for a local man charged with selling heroin.

Troy Masterman, 41, was arrested on charges of aggravated drug trafficking and violating conditions of release.

A conviction on the trafficking charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. The violation of conditions charge is punishable by up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.

Masterman’s girlfriend, Margarett Brunsen, 39, of Norway was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a scheduled drug and violating conditions of release.

According to a sworn statement by Norway police officer Brandon Correia, he received a complaint from the Inn Town Motel on Paris Street.

Upon arriving at the motel, Correia wrote that he conducted a database search of Masterman and his girlfriend and discovered that Masterman had bail conditions that included no possession or use of illegal drugs and to submit to random search and testing.

He also discovered that Brunsen had an active warrant for violating conditions of release.

Correia wrote that he searched Masterman’s room with Oxford police officer Daniel Hastings and discovered an Altoids tin “containing a substance consistent with heroin and two snorting straws” and “another substance consistent with heroin wrapped in tin foil located in the front pocket of a backpack next to the front door of the room.”

Masterman later admitted that the substance was heroin.

The trafficking charge was a felony because the Inn Town Motel is within 1,000 feet of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris.

A conference to discuss Masterman’s charges is scheduled for Sept. 28 at Oxford County Superior Court.
