DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Outdoor Market will mark its 40th anniversary with two days of activities next month.

Events on Saturday evening, Aug. 19, will include a chicken barbecue hosted by the Masons from 4 to 7 p.m. and music by the band Skosh from 5 to 8 p.m., committee members Sue Arsenault, Donna Gilbert, Kristi Holmquist and Katie Nolette said Wednesday.

Both days, Aug. 19 and 20, there will be a display of photos entered in a contest for amateurs at the Dixfield Historical Society on Main Street. Photo categories are portraits, landscapes, still lifes, pets, wildlife and Dixfield “hometown pride.” To enter contact Deb Towle at [email protected] or 585-2530.

Nolette said the market is about promoting local businesses.

Proceeds go toward student scholarships, Arsenault said.

Gilbert said it provides “a sense of community; trying to bring our community back together.”

Holmquist agreed, saying, “It’s a good way for people to drop by and see what we’re all about here. And I think that the yearly effort that we put in is about giving back to the community.”

On Sunday, runners can register for the Moose Run 5K. The first 42 runners to register will receive newly designed T-shirts by Hot Colors of Norway featuring Dixfield’s Bull Rock moose mascot.

“The 5K is perfect for families and the first-time runner because there is only one moderate hill at the beginning of the course and the rest (of the course) is flat,” Nolette said.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. for the 8 a.m. race. To register online go to dixfieldoutdoormarket5k.weebly.com, or sign up at the Town Office.

A parade with the theme Moosely Main Street starts at 10 a.m. Sunday. People with businesses, antique cars, firetrucks and ambulances, and children are encouraged to sign up for the parade, Holmquist said. To register call Kristi at 418-7756.

Food vendors, singer Sammie Angel, raffle tickets, handcrafted items for sale, and a Kids Korner and preschool storytime for children will be included from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Angel will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. at the town gazebo.

Any local businesses willing to donate items for a raffle may contact Sue at 418-7454.
