LEWISTON — Organist Christopher Pelonzi will be the guest performer at a concert to be held at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, 122 Ash St.
A resident of Maine, Pelonzi is the director of music for the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Portland Peninsula and Island Parishes. After receiving his degree from McGill University, he decided to pursue a career in sacred music and conducting.
He is currently enrolled in a graduate program for choral conducting at the University of Southern Maine, is the current dean of the Portland Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, as well as an artist-in-residence with Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ.
Pelonzi has appeared in numerous recitals and concerts around the state as well as New England, Pennsylvania and across Canada. He regularly performs on harpsichord and organ with St. Mary’s Schola and is a founding member of the Sul Cappello Ensemble.
The program includes: IV Dialogue sur les mixtures (from Suite Brève) — Langlais (1907-1991); Lazarus (from Meditations on the Love of God) — Marilyn Biery (b.1959); and Hommage à Frescobaldi (III, IV, V, VIII), Elévation, Communion, Fantaisie, Epilogue — Langlais (1907-1991).
The concert is free. Donations to restore the Casavant Organ are gratefully accepted.
