Pismo Beach rules
What happened:
The Board of Selectmen agreed to revise the rules for the use of Pismo Beach by a 3-2 vote, with Selectmen Scott Hunter and Ed Knightly voting against the measure.
What it means:
The board has ordered that Pismo Beach is to be used only by Oxford residents and taxpayers. Guests are allowed on the beach only if they have a resident or taxpayer present. All vehicles must have stickers issued at the Town Office.
What’s next:
The beach hours will now be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
SCBA Packs
What happened:
The Board of Selectmen agreed to allow Fire Chief Gary Sacco move forward in purchasing air packs for the Fire Department to replace outdated equipment currently being used.
What it means:
Sacco said he has negotiated with two companies and can purchase about a dozen air packs for approximately $3,800. The airpacks have been used for demonstration purposes only and are a better buy than new ones, which would be more costly.
What’s next:
Sacco told the board that he has learned former Chief Wayne Jones and Capt. Carl Van Nest applied for $325,000 in federal funds specifically for the purchase of firefighters’ equipment. Sacco said he has been unable to find a letter saying the grant had been denied so he assumes the town still has a chance at receiving some of the funds.
