JAY — Selectpersons appointed nine residents Thursday to serve on a Solid Waste Committee.
The first meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 24 at the Town Office.
Residents volunteered after it was suggested that they look at ways to offset the cost of curbside trash and recyclable pickup, if voters approve it at a special town meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 in the cafeteria at Spruce Mountain Middle School.
They could also make recommendations on other matters including the operations at the Transfer Station.
Appointed to the committee were: Mike Fournier, Alfred Dufour III, Delance White, Tom Goding, Suzanne Czarnecki, Marilyn Morse, Greg Given, Richard Harvell and Lillian Wight.
Selectpersons Tim DeMillo and Judy Diaz will serve in ex officio capacity on the committee and will not vote. The committee will be acting as an advisory committee to the board, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said.
Public Works/Transfer Station Director John Johnson and LaFreniere will be the staff involved.
Initially Selectperson Gary McGrane volunteered to be on the committee.
DeMillo had volunteered to be on the committee earlier this year when appointments to committees were made. DeMillo expressed his desire to continue in that role, LaFreniere said.
