NORWAY — The Board of Selectmen has voted unanimously to approve the latest draft of the town’s safety policy mission statement.
Recreation Director Deb Partridge said the town first approved a draft of the statement seven years ago, and every year, the town votes to readopt it.
“This document validates that the town takes safety seriously and dictates what the employees’ role is in it,” she told the board.
According to the safety policy, the town is required to provide safety training to all employees, to provide necessary protective equipment to help reduce exposure to potential hazards of work duties and to provide resources to correct hazardous conditions as they arise.
Partridge added that the only changes being made to the mission statement this year were “reformatting it to make it easier to read” and “adding a paragraph that clarifies this policy is approved by the Board of Selectmen and the town manager.”
“The new paragraph is a way to show that, from the top down, everyone in this town supports safety, and that we’ll strive as close to zero workplace accidents as possible,” Partridge said.
She said it’s important that everyone buys into safety culture.
“Once this document is approved, a copy of it will go to every employee,” she said. “They’ll sign it and it’ll go into their file.”
