LEWISTON — The city and the Police Department report complaints from several local campaigns regarding the theft or destruction of political signs.
Police are reminding the public that it is illegal to tamper with or remove public political signs.
Unlawful removal, defacement or disturbance of temporary signs in a public right of way is a civil violation that carries a fine of up to $250. Additionally, violators may be charged with theft, criminal mischief or criminal trespass.
