AUBURN — Irene F. Burt, 72, of Poland, died early Thursday morning, Oct. 19, at Clover Manor where she had been a resident for the past year.
She was born Aug. 2, 1945, in Cambridge, Mass., daughter of Albert G. Tilley and Marjorie Lyder Tilley. She attended school in Cambridge, graduating from Mount Zion School, and then went on to graduate from the University of Maine at Augusta with her BS in nursing.
Irene married Norman Burt in July 1979. They made their home in Poland.
Throughout her nursing career she worked at Maine General Hospital, Central Maine Medical Center, Schooner Estates and Spring Harbor Hospital.
Irene was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Lewiston.
Irene grew up in a large city and always wanted to live in the country in Maine. She and Norman enjoyed their little log home in Poland for many years. She enjoyed her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent a lot of time studying her family’s history. And if you knew Irene at all, you couldn’t describe her without saying what an incredible sense of humor she had.
She also loved God. Her favorite quote was, “The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God cannot keep you!”
Irene is survived by her husband, Norman of Auburn, stepchildren Wayne Burt and his wife, Karen of Sabattus, Cathy Snyder of Mechanic Falls, Greg Burt of Port Richie, Fla., and her “adopted” stepdaughter Jeanie Larson and husband Brett of Oxford. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly, Shawnna, Tony, Melissa, Verena, Emily, Erykah and Jessykah. And her great-grandchildren Daulton, Cadence, Carly, Brayden, Wyatt, Garrison, Levi, Allyana and Cora. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Marjorie Tilley and two brothers Albert and Eugene Tilley.
