LISBON — The Town Council on Tuesday passed an updated all-terrain vehicle ordinance, which says trails are open June 1 to Oct. 31, from sunrise to sunset.
Other provisions include:
• Riders younger than 18 must have a driver’s license or be accompanied by an adult who is 21 or older;
• Speed limit is 10 mph; and
• Penalties for violating the ordinance include a warning, a $50 fine, a $100 fine for a second violation, and $200 for subsequent violations.
“We’re going to need the help of the townspeople,” said Roger Bickford, a member of the Lisbon ATV Club. “We cannot enforce the ordinance if somebody is going by your house two or three times a day, doing something you don’t like and you don’t call in.”
Bickford presented a map of the public roads, which will also serve as ATV access routes.
The areas include Miller, Ferry, River, Wagg, County, Burrough, Gould, Edgecomb, Cotton and Pinewoods roads, Scottsdale, Huston and Summer streets, Capital Avenue and a section of Route 196.
“I helped with the ordinance,” Bickford said. “I tried to make it very, very strict. I know what works and what doesn’t work.”
The council’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Town Office.
