LEWISTON — Guitarist Denny Breau and his wife, flautist Ann Breau, will be the featured performers at a very special Oasis of Music concert this Wednesday, Nov. 22. The event will run from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at Trinity Church, 248 Bates St.
The Breaus are well known for their fluid and soulful renditions of selections from the American songbook, from blues to ragtime to country to folk to jazz standards to their own compositions about life in these United States of America.
Denny Breau’s rhythmically flawless and dazzlingly clear style allows him to do amazing and stunning things with a six-string guitar. He mixes genres with ease, “creating a totally accessible musical mélange that captivates as it entertains,” according to Lucky Clark writing for the Kennebec (Maine) Journal. Breau is also a consummate and engaging storyteller and singer, with a distinctive take on the Franco-American culture in which he was raised.
Ann Breau will be remembered by many as half of Silverwood with guitarist Marc Jalbert, where her jazz and classical training as a flautist helped her as co-creator of some truly innovative late-20th-century music.
This promises to be an altogether rare event with voices and instruments ringing in the pure acoustics of Trinity Church.
Oasis of Music concerts are always free, with the opportunity to donate. FMI: Call 344-3106.
