AUBURN — James Howard DeLong, of Auburn, passed away in Auburn at Oddfellow Nursing Home on Saturday, Nov. 18, surrounded by family. Born and raised in Wheeling, W.V., on July 30, 1922, James served in the US Navy during WWII, stationed in Portland. That is where he met the love of his life, Cecile Champagne. They were married Dec. 2, 1944, and settled in Auburn, where they lived their entire life. After leaving the military, James worked for Lewiston Gas & Light Co. and sold Fuller Brush and Raleigh products before joining Bates College as a custodian in Chase Hall for 20 years. He is survived by his daughter, Jane, and three sons, Thomas, Michael and James R., as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Cecile, on June 7, 2009.
