Falling a distance of thirty feet from the Grand Trunk bridge spanning the Androscoggin to the ice beneath Monday night about half past eight, a man from South Paris escaped with a slight scalp wound and a bruised hip. The force of the fall was somewhat broken by a suitcase which he was carrying. He was taken to Ste. Marie’s General hospital, where it was reported Tuesday morning that his wounds were not serious. The Lewiston police were notified of the accident, and it was they who rescued the man. He had not lost consciousness and said that he had fallen. He added that he had walked from Lewiston Junction and was coming into the city to get a room for the night.

Several area businesses and friends are combining their efforts in a project called Business Birds, designed to help needy families have a special holiday dinner. What began as an idea that one business could provide a dinner for one family has grown to the point where 32 businesses and friends are now taking part. The business buys the turkey and the employees provide all the fixings. A group of volunteers delivers the dinners to families whose names are provided by various local social
agencies. Last year, the group delivered dinners to 20 area families and
this year there will be at least 44 dinners.
