OXFORD — The Board of Selectmen granted three refunds for property taxes Thursday night after hearing from the town’s agent, Donna Hays.
The three cases heard Thursday were:
• A request for $3,110.52 for 10 Snell Lane because the property was sold before April 1, 2017.
• A request for $198.45 for 144 Skeetfield Road because a mobile home was removed from the property before April 1, 2017. Hays said the home was sold but a bill of sale was not submitted.
• A request for $189.63 for 463 Allen Hill Road because the property has deteriorated. Hays said the structure had a leaking roof, no water and had not been used for years.
The board also:
• Approved the renewal of Pa’s Trading Post pawn broker’s license.
• Approved transferring $16,696 from the Reserve Account to a Town Office archival project account. The money is part of $20,000 approved by voters last year for the project.
• Appointed Paula Thayer and Joseph Wax to the Budget Committee and Shawn Morse to the Planning Board. There are still openings on the Planning Board.
• Tabled a decision on setting the cost-of-living adjustment until the next board meeting.
Hays told selectmen that close to 3,000 tax bills are mailed each year, and it is not unusual to receive abatement requests filed for a variety of reasons, including structures being removed, mistakes in acreage or property sold.
Hays said taxes are committed as of April 1, but the tax rate is not set by selectmen until late summer. Property values are based on their condition as of April 1.
