MONMOUTH — Jack Traps Ice Fishing Outfitters is pleased to announce their 9 Annual Jack Traps Youth Ice Fishing Derby to be held at Cochenwagon Pond in Monmouth on Saturday, February 24 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration is now open and free to all children 12 years of age and under. This derby is designed as an introduction to ice fishing and is not a competition. There will be no fish weigh-in. Every child that participates will receive an ice fishing prize, free bait, and there will be free food and drinks for all that attend. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment. However, if any child does not have equipment available to them, there will be equipment at the derby for them to use. There will also be volunteers on hand to help drill holes and show children how to fish, if need be. Some lucky participants will be drawn at random to win prizes including, but not limited to, an ice auger, Jack Traps ice fishing traps, pack baskets, lifetime fishing licenses.
Space is limited so participants should be sure to pre-register before February 19. Registration forms can be downloaded at jacktraps.com or picked up at the Jack Traps retail store in Monmouth. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and arrive dressed in very warm clothing including winter boots, hats, and mittens. Upon arrival on February 24, participating children must first check-in at the registration tent on the lake to be eligible for prizes. At 11:00 a.m., all participants will meet back at the tent for the random drawings for prizes. Participants must be present to win.
