WELD — Voters at the annual town meeting Saturday will consider requests for employee pay increases, a tractor and replacing the town office roof.
The meeting begins at 10 a.m. March 3 at the Town Hall.
Selectmen recommend raising the fire chief’s annual stipend from $1,200 to $1,500 and the assistant chief’s from $800 to $1,000. They also recommend raising the hourly salary of the transfer station attendant from $12 to $12.50 per hour.
The sum of $35,000 is requested to replace the roof on the Town Office/post office complex. Last year, voters rejected paying $30,000 to replace it.
Selectman Thomas Skolfield said the board knew the funds probably wouldn’t be approved last year because the town hall also needed roof repairs.
“We wanted to alert people last year that it needs to be done as soon as possible,” he said.
The Budget Committee and selectmen recommend appropriating $18,000 from the capital improvements account, $5,000 from Town Office/post office lease/mortgage account and raising $12,000.
Voters will be asked to appropriate $3,000 for the paving account for the Town Office/post office. Skolfield said there is $7,000 in the fund.
Voters will first be asked to purchase a front end loader using all but $10,000 of the public works equipment fund, proceeds from the sale of the loader and a loan for the balance.
“The current loader has a number of repair issues that need to be addressed at what appears to be a great deal of expense,” Skolfield said.
If the purchase isn’t approved, repairing the loader will be considered. The road commissioner has received estimates totaling $31,700 to fix it.
Other warrant articles to be considered include:
• Completing the Mt. View Cemetery Expansion;
• Starting phase 2 of the 2002 Town Forest Management Plan;
• Deciding what to do with the $800 remaining in the Bicentennial Account;
• Deciding what to do with the tennis courts; and
• Adopting ordinances on retail marijuana establishments and social clubs.
