Walton Elementary School Principal Mike Davis serves his red chicken chili and corn and clam chowder to Evie and Ronan Marshall during the New Auburn Ninth Annual Chili/Chowder Challenge at the Auburn school on Saturday. Three Auburn firefighters tasted and judged 32 entries during the fundraiser. Proceeds were divided between Walton Elementary, Sherwood Heights Elementary and the event sponsor, United New Auburn Association. Davis’ chili was awarded second place people’s choice and second place judge’s choice. Walton Elementary took home the event’s biggest trophy and bragging rights when the school beat Sherwood Heights Elementary school for the “Best of Schools Chili and Chowder.” Sherwood Heights Principal Kim Taylor did, however, top Davis for first place in the chili people’s choice award. Evie and Ronan Marshall are students at Sherwood Heights. (Daryn Slover/Sun Journal)
