LISBON — Superintendent of Schools Richard Green on Wednesday night presented the Town Council with a proposed $16.57 million budget that would increase the local tax obligation by $654,893.
“The primary concern or challenge with this year’s budget is that last year we utilized the unassigned account,” Green said. “We used an additional $209,451 from our unassigned fund to help offset costs last year.”
After the audit this year, the district returned only $5,678 to the unassigned account.
“This number is so low because we had to do a prior period adjustment for our salary and also created the Gartley Street School,” Green said. “We used every penny that we had, literally, to get that program up and going.”
The initial budget also includes funds to hire a part-time maintenance person.
The budget does not include a second school resource officer, which was discussed at past school committee meetings.
The next School Committee meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday.
The Town Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
