The city of Lewiston has recycled nearly half the materials collected during two recent spring cleanup weeks, Solid Waste Superintendent Eileen Sylvan Johnson has reported. A total of 46 tons of scrap metal and 250 tons of wood waste was diverted from the landfill. For the third year, residents were asked to set out wood waste and scrap metal during the first week of the program, and all other bulky wastes in the second. The cleanup “proceeded smoothly,” Johnson said.

The material in Looking Back is reproduced exactly as it originally appeared, although misspellings and errors made at that time may be corrected.
