Morris Cote, 82, of Houlton, pins the badge on his son, John Cote, of China at his swearing in as chief of the Maine State Police on Monday in Augusta. A 29-year veteran of the agency, Cote served as deputy chief for the past two years. He succeeds Col. Robert Williams, who retired this year.
