Flag retirement ceremony
PARIS — VFW Post 9787 is hosting a Flag Retirement Ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at 58 East Main St. The public is welcome to attend and the ceremony should be completed by 11:30.
A chicken pie supper will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for $9 per person.
Finnish-American Heritage Society meeting
WEST PARIS — The monthly meeting of the Finnish-American Heritage Society will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 17, at 8 Maple St. The public is invited to attend and share at the coffee table. Two short programs will follow a brief business meeting.
In the first program, “Finland Then,” a short memoir written by Aune Sundelin Floyd and published in 1942 in the Virginia Quarterly Review, will be presented.
The second program will be a brief description of the impact of the Winter War on the civilian population of Kuhmo, Finland, prompted by Dale Piirainen’s discovery of his great-grandfather’s grave in Vuolijoki, from where he and others were evacuated at the beginning of that conflict.
Sons of Italy meeting
RUMFORD — Sons of Italy Lodge No. 467, Route 108, will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 17. The meeting will be followed by a light lunch, agenda available.
Retired educators spring meeting
KINGFIELD — The Franklin County Retired Educators will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, in Webster Hall, next to the Stanley Museum.
The program will be Bill Burkhoff and his music. Lunch will be available for $10 and a book swap and mystery gift will also be available.

West Paris Historical Society meeting
WEST PARIS — West Paris Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 18, to hear Pat Sherman talk about Charles Prince.
The annual calendar sales will start for the June meeting, and draw-off will be at the July 16 meeting.
The society hall will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, June 24, July 8 and 22, and Aug. 5, 19 and 26.

Summer Garden Tour
FARMINGTON — The public is invited to join members of the Mt. Blue Area Garden Club for its first Summer Garden Tour on Tuesday, June 19. A social half-hour at 5:30 p.m. will be followed by a tour of the gardens of Mary Batt, 106 Heritage Circle.
Attendees may bring a bag dinner, a chair and a plant to swap. Hosts Pat Durham, Ed Davis and Carol Nichols will provide beverages and light desserts.
