Mad Science coming to Oxford Hills

PARIS — To kick-off the summer activity schedules, the Norway Memorial Library and Paris Public Library are jointly sponsoring a visit from Mad Science to the Oxford Hills.

The fun and science-filled program about sound will be presented at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Deering Memorial Community Center, 39 Main St., Paris.

In this program about the science of sound, participants will hear light, explore sound as it travels through solids, liquids and gases, and hear the tones of resonance tubes. The program concludes with an indoor thunderstorm.

FARMINGTON — The Gold LEAF Institute Senior College at University of Maine Farmington will hold its summer term kick-off and annual meeting on Wednesday, June 27, at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, 130 Quebec St.

The program will run from 3 to 4 p.m.; course registrations will take place from 4 to 5 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Gold LEAF is a member-run organization that promotes lifelong learning. Membership is open to anyone 50 or older, and to spouse/partner regardless of age.

Oxford Historical Society meeting

OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at 73 Pleasant St.

The meeting will be followed by a presentation, “Oxford Central Railroad Line, Its History in Norway and Surrounding Areas,” by Peter Hammond, historian for the Norway Historical Society.

The public is welcome.
