Rangeley to restore headstones
RANGELEY — The Town of Rangeley has contracted to repair and clean the old stones in the cemeteries of Rangeley. The cemeteries will be under restoration for the next few weeks.
Nile Brook Cemetery was completed in 2016, and follow-up repairs will be completed this month. Evergreen Cemetery will have the front, old sections of the cemetery done, with Wilbur Cemetery and Schoolhouse Cemetery being completed as well.
The town has no responsibility for private stones, but determined through the work of the Cemetery Committee that this was a worthwhile project for the town to take on as some of the stones were in such disrepair and there is no living relatives to take care of them any longer.
Questions may be addressed to town clerk Tricia Roy at 207-864-3326.
