Thursday’s rain has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning for Franklin, Oxford and Somerset counties in Maine.

Showers and thunderstorms may produce flash flooding as well as minor river flooding on the streams and rivers in the area, according to the NWS.

The NWS warning affects — but is not limited to — the towns of Andover, Byron,
Middle Dam, Roxbury, South Arm, Oquossoc, Rangeley, Avon, Kingfield, Phillips, New Portland, Bethel, Bryant Pond, Newry, Rumford, Norway, Fryeburg, Oxford, Farmington, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Temple, Wilton, Chesterville and Jay.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, according to the NWS.

Behind the storms is a possible heat wave. Temperatures could top 90 degrees beginning Saturday and for several days to follow.
