Down Maine Series talks monarchs

BETHEL — Naturalist Paul Motts will discuss the many challenges that face the monarch butterfly on its journey for survival at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at McLaughlin Auditorium, Gould Academy.

Every September, hundreds of monarch butterflies pass through Maine on a journey of more than 3,000 miles to the Sierra Madre Mountains near Mexico City. The migration is one of the greatest feats in the natural world, a journey that spans more than four generations to complete.

This talk will be the fourth in Western Mountains Senior College’s 2018 Down Home Maine series. It is free and open to the public, but donations to cover incidental costs of the college will be welcome.
