Texas Hold’Em poker planned
PARIS — The AMVETS monthly Texas Hold’Em poker tournaments are held at from 5 p.m. to midnight on the first Friday of the month at the American Legion Hall.
The events are open to the public. The Auxiliary will have a food concession open from 5 p.m. until the end of second break. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Buy-in is usually $50 with a license fee of $5 and an optional $5 High Hand.

Family, Fun and Food Get Together
DIXFIELD — Dixfield Common Baptist Church will have its second annual Family, Fun and Food Get Together Saturday, Sept. 8, at 434 Common Road.
The church’s pastor Ken Hinkley and Linda Hinkley will host the event, which will include a pot luck meal, games, prizes and socializing.
Those attending may come when they can and leave when they are ready. This is a chemical- and alcohol-free event.
In the event of foul weather, those attending should call 207-562-7470 for an alternate location.
Library benefit now Sept. 8
WATERFORD — Benefit Fun’d Raiser for the Waterford Library has been rescheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.
The event will feature Milltown Roadshow, lawn games, a treasures table, music, dancing and food.
Cost to attend is $10. All are welcome.
Society talk on lost tribes
BRYANT POND — Peter Stowell will present “The Lost Tribes of Western Maine” during the regular meeting of the Woodstock Historical Society Saturday, Sept. 8, at the church on Grove Street.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the program at about 6:30 p.m.
All are welcome to attend.
Yarn bomb at Paris River Park
PARIS — Paris River Park is sponsoring a “Yarn Bomb” of the chain barricade that is at the end of the driveway at the park on Paris Hill Road.
Yarn bombing is the action or activity of covering objects or structures in public places with decorative knitted or crocheted material, as a form of street art.
Anyone who knits, crochets or works with fiber in other forms and who would like to participate should bring their pieces to Paris River Park, 1 Paris Hill Road, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. There will be a net attached to the barricade where all donated pieces will be attached. Pieces should be approximately 8 by 10 inches up to 9 by 15 inches.

Honey bee club to meet
PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.
The speaker will be Mark Cooper, master beekeeper, owner of Charolais Cattle Farm and owner of a beekeeping supply business. The topic is getting ready for winter.
Weather permitting there will be an open hive, so those attending should bring veils.
