ONTARIO, Calif. – Bertrand J. Grondin, 92, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at Providence Ontario Nursing Home where he resided the past several years due to failing health and dementia.
He was born June 16, 1926 in Livermore Falls, the eight child of Joseph and Florida (Chouinard) Grondin. On May 31, 1945 he married Dorothy L. Fish in Lewiston, Maine. They were married 23 yrs. He was a handsewer at Bass Shoe until 1953 when he moved to Middleboro, Mass., where he raised his family and continued working in the shoe industry. In 1968 they divorced and Bert moved to California where he met and married Juanita (Irene) Evans. They were married for 15 years. After he retired, Bert returned to Maine during the summers and resided at Powderhorn Campground at Old Orchard Beach for about 10 years before his health started failing. There he met many friends and worked as a handyman for the campground. His whole life he was a hard worker and always stayed busy.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy J. Fickett of Buckfield and Brenda E. Biggart of Long Beach, Calif.; 11 grandchildren: Lori (Rob) Simoglou, Bonnie Richard, Kyle (Pam) Butler, Andrew Butler, Jeanette Rendenza, Elizabeth North, Angela (John) Harris, Brian (Pam) Grondin, Michael Grondin, Tracy (Don) Brassard, and Angela Hamlin; 13 great-grandchildren: Lyric, Trent, Lucas, Ashley, Parker, Corbin, Katie, Nick, Nicole, B J, Lexi, Alana, and Lilyanna; seven great-great-grandchildren: Joselyn, Daniel, Kamdyn, Kolten, Brylee, Mia, and Liam; and five stepchildren: Vicky, Rhonda, Brenda,William, and Lynn.
He was predeceased by two sons: Joey and Arthur Grondin; his daughter-in-law, Beverly; four brothers: Armand, Andrew, Roland, and Antonio; three sisters: Rose A. Grondin, Rose Sirous, and Claudia Chretien.
