Alicemay Wright

1926 – 2018

NORWAY – Alicemay Wright, 91, of West Paris, died early Saturday morning, Oct. 13, 2018.

She was born on Oct. 22, 1926, in Mars Hill, the only child of Ralph and Mabel (Hall) Everett. She graduated from Ricker Classical Academy in Houlton and went on to attend Beaver College in Pennsylvania.

On April 22, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, William Lincoln Wright III, in Bridgewater, Maine. His work in education as a teacher and a principal took them to various places over the years including Springfield, Mass., the Oxford Hills area, Rockport, Mass., and Livermore, Maine. Alicemay worked in the banking profession for over 30 years. She was employed at Norway Savings Bank, Beverly Savings Bank, and later Franklin Savings Bank from where she retired in 1988. For three years she served as President of the Maine Banking Association.

Bill and Alicemay enjoyed 49 wonderful years together. Some of their fondest memories are of working together at summer camps, running a day camp in Oxford, Maine and establishing and directing Camp Sandhurst Junior in Harrison, Maine. They also loved to travel and spend time with close friends.

Alicemay was very involved in the Episcopal Church during her lifetime and was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Norway. The church was very important to her and she was especially supportive of the Episcopal diocese of Maine summer camp, Bishopswood, located in Hope, Maine. Alicemay’s daughters and grandchildren all attended this camp and it was very dear to her heart. Alicemay will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and Nana. She was always the life of the party and even into her 90s astonished everyone with her sense of humor and energy. Her greatest pleasure was to be with her family and friends. She enjoyed time spent in Englewood, Florida, Spruce Head, Maine and her home in West Paris. She especially loved attending all of her grandchildren’s activities. From swim lessons, dance, soccer, basketball, school events and hockey games, Nana was always there to support them.

She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Wright and her husband, John Mattern of Spruce Head Island, Susan Wright and her husband, James Welch of Strafford, N.H., and Marcia Wright and her husband, Robert Ryder of West Paris; grandchildren, Callum Welch, Lacey Ryder, Wyatt Ryder and Wade Ryder; a niece, Carol Maines of Rockland. She was predeceased by her husband, William Wright, and her son-in-law, Daniel Dargon.

A memorial service for Alicemay will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 at the Christ Episcopal Church, 35 Paris St., Norway. Private family interment at the Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
