ST. MICHAELS – Ethel Knox Irions, 88, of St. Michaels, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton.

She was born in 1930 in Caribou, Maine, the daughter of the late Lyman Burrill Knox and Hazel Shorey Knox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Major General (USAF), Charles Carter Irions; three brothers, Phillip, Milton, and Lyman, Jr. and one sister, Phyllis Knox Squiers.  She is survived by one son, Jonathan Knox Irions of Fort Collins, Colo., one daughter Leslie Irions McKahan of Davenport, Fla., and one granddaughter, Molly McKahan Garcia and her husband, Dorian of Amarillo, Texas.

Ethel (also known as Mickey) was a graduate of Lisbon, Maine High School and Bliss Business College. After working in the field of public relations, she was an Air Force wife for 33 years with 29 address changes throughout the world. She considered herself a “professional volunteer” and served in many school events, boy scouts, girl scouts, Red Cross, Family Services, as well as numerous Air Force Base Related Boards. She was also very much involved in Little Theatre activities and was often called “the resident poet”, toastmaster and skit writer for awards banquets and social occasions.  She was also active in her church fundraising events and was an avid bridge player.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton.

Friends may call on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018 from 1-3 p.m., at Bayleigh Chase Auditorium, 501 Dutchmans Lane, Easton.

There will be a chapel service on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018 at 11 a.m., where Ethel will be interred at her husband’s side at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Md.
