OXFORD – James A. Tufts, 76, passed away, Dec. 28, 2018, at Androscoggin Hospice House after a 15-year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born Feb. 19, 1942 in Lewiston, Maine, The son of Linwood and Vera (Strout) Tufts.

James graduated from UMA with an associate degree in human services. He served four years in the U.S. Army, eight years in the U.S. Air Force and two tours in Vietnam. After serving 12 years in the military, he pursued his love for truck driving.

July 10, 1970, he married Anita Verrill and settled in Oxford Hills, they celebrated 48 years of marriage in July. James was a loyal member of the VFW post No. 9787 of South Paris and a lifetime member of the DAV and a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Scottie; his, uncle, Bill and his favorite aunt, Dora. Surviving in addition to his wife, Anita (Verrill) Tufts; are his daughter, Karen McBride and husband, Danny; sons, Marvin Tufts, Donald Black and wife, Kathy, Edwin Black and Michael Tufts, 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Ansel Tufts and wife, Cindy; one sister, Maxine Baker and husband, George, and many nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 1, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 315 Skeetfield Road, Oxford, Maine. Interment will be at the Veteran Cemetery in Augusta. Online condolences may be left for the family at hallfuneralhome.net
